Hi guys. I'm looking for some advice on the best way to go about painting metal house numbers. The numbers I have decided on are solid cast brass and are offered with 4 different finishes. You can see them here: Floating House Numbers - Architectural Mailboxes
I'd like to paint them a medium yellow color. I know that I will first have to prepare the surface before painting them, but have no idea how I would go about doing it. I'm hoping someone can provide me with a step-by-step outline of the process and products/chemicals I should use for this project. My assumption is that the paint will be spray paint. Also, I live in Minneapolis, and want to make sure that the color is durable through as many of the harsh winters as possible, so any final finishes you can recommend would be appreciated.
I was thinking that the Satin Nickel finished numbers would be the best ones to purchase since they are the lightest in color, but ultimately I want to buy whichever finish will give me the best final results. Recommendations on which finish to start with for the project would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Tugboat Bill

Since they will probably have a clearcoat of some sort...I'd probably just clean with mineral spirits or alcohol (not rubbing alcohol with oils in it) and paint them with a solvent based enamel rattle can.
You could also use auto touch up paint if you find a good color.
