Repainting exterior brick
Hi all - Does anyone having any experience repainting brick homes? If so, what product do you recommend? I currently have what looks to be two aged coats of paint on the brick. I will do the requisite prep-work to ensure anything loose, cracked, or chipping is removed.
The contractor I just received an estimate from thinks Sherwin Williams Loxon XP may be the best choice, but my SW rep says it is too heavy and may pull off the old paint. He recommends spot priming and using a light top coat like A-100. I'm hoping to get some insight so that I don't have to paint the house again in the very near future.

Welcome to the forums!
While I haven't painted a lot of brick, over the years we've always used house paint. IMO A-100 or SuperPaint should preform well. I'm slightly familiar with the Loxon line of coatings but have never had occasion to use them. If the SWP paint rep is recommending against it, I'd listen to him.
The 2 biggest things prep wise when painting brick is to remove any/all loose paint and either wash off all the chalk or add Flood's EmulsaBond to the 1st coat of latex paint. If mildew is an issue, wash it off with a bleach/water solution and add extra mildewcide to the paint. Brick paint jobs normally last about 10 yrs.
