Question

I am remodeling my kitchen totally. The solid oak custom built cabinets already in the kitchen are just varnished or polyurthaned (not stained). I wanted to do a different finish on them, perhaps a washed type finish so they will match my new cabinets. I've seen this finish before but can't find any info on how to do it. Suggestions?
Thanks!

Whitewashing over finished cabinets gives different results than whitewashing un-finished ones, so depending on how the new ones are finished will determine on how to re-do the old ones. What you could do is take a door from each up to Sherwin Williams (or other PRO paint store) and ask politely "I need a good matchmaker" and have them give there opinion because they will actually be able to examine the wood, from here it is left too wide open.

If you are very lucky, you will not need to strip them to get a pretty good match, but you probably will if you want a close to perfect match.
