Unhappy

I need help/ideas about how to prepare walls with cracked and peeling rough textured paint. I really just want to paint over the texture, but in some areas the textured paint(and 2 previous layers of paint) has peeled and cracked. This leaves a deep hole over plaster walls that needs filling and texturing before repainting.
Help! how can i do this? ANY advice appreciated.

Bubblesgalore, Prime the bad areas with an oil primer so what you do will bond and not fall out again. I would use drywall compound for the patches and would thin it a good bit so it will take a texture. The texture is where I can't be of any help not knowing what is there but the idea would be to spread the hole full of mud and texture as closely as possible. You will have to use your imagination and some advice from local stores as to what to texture with. Remember, if a patch doesn't look good the first time or two around you can sponge it off and try again. Even when dry you can soak with a sponge to break it down and go again...Mike
