Question

I need to repaint a steel door (in interior of house going
into the garage). The paint is coming off the bottom of door. Also has nail holes at top and the hole are pointing
out. How do I correct and paint this door. I am planning
on using the same flat interior paint I used in living room.

Ideally you must strip the paint off with chemical stripper.
Then seal the metal surface with a quality metal primer.
You can fill the holes over the primer with car body filler & rub down until flat with wet & dry paper then apply your undercoat and finish.....

greyhounder, If you don't want to strip the door(who would) scrape and sand it. Knock the holes down flush and patch with spackling. Prime with 100% acrylic primer such as Zinsser 123, KILZ 2 or KILZ Total One. Topcoat with paint of your choice....Mike
