Painting concrete walls

Hey guys, whats your thoughts on painting concrete basement interior walls? They have a very light coating of what looks to be PINK paint that I would love to cover with just a white paint or even just a primer.

I read somewhere that I should not paint concrete because it traps water inside, not sure how accurate that is since i read it on the internet, lol.

I just renovated the entire first floor and spent most of my money but eventually, we will be finishing the basement so if it may chip a few years down the road, I;m not too worried about that. ... I really just hate looking at the pink walls and I need it gone haha

If your foundation walls stay dry - it's a mute point. If water does get trapped behind the paint it will cause the paint to blister, sooner or later. I assume your pink coating is a paint of some sort so I doubt there is any harm in apply a coat of white latex over it.

Primer isn't durable as a top coat for any length of time so use an actual paint for that.

ok thanks guys, I'll just go with a coat of white latex. Should I get special concrete/masonary paint or just any regular latex?

Most any latex paint should be fine.
