Painting ductwork?

Hi there,

I've got a closet I'd like to paint, but there's ductwork running up one of the corners. At some point someone plastered over it with what looks like joint compound. Is that normal? Should I paint over this? Or is this something that I ought to correct somehow?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Are you sure that's not a chase with the duct inside? I kinda doubt it was just bare duct work, but who knows.

Go ahead and paint it.

A little hard to tell from the pic but that looks more like a chase than actual duct work, either way you can go ahead and paint it. The biggest issue with painting ductwork is they normally have an oily film on them that needs to be washed off first or the paint will pop off sooner or later. If that is metal duct, hopefully it was prepped correctly before the texture was applied.
