Advice on whether to paint metal banister or not
Was looking online at houses on my block with similar design and structure and noticed one of them had almost the same banister as mine but was completely white to match their wall colors. I'm in the process repairing my floors and painting and wanted to know if I should spray paint the banisters white or leave them black and just clean them up. Will it match the walls and trim ?

I attached pics, please excuse the ugly floors.
Thank you

Those railing do not even look like they meet code.
The spacing should not be more then 4".
Only way I'd spray paint those if they where completely removed. There would be over spray every where in the house.
They would all have to be degreased, sanded then primed with a light colored primer then painted white.

The railing is the ugly part, IMO. A new coat of paint couldn't hurt but I would be considering replacement instead, especially since (as Joe mentioned) they do not appear to meet current code.

Iron rails generally come from the wrought iron shop painted black. I have had a few customers want theirs painted white after the fact. I always brushed on a good primer and 1-2 coats of oil base enamel paint [same as the trim paint]. IMO they look better longer if left black because the black doesn't show wear or grime as easily as a light color does.
IMO you are better off either leaving then as is or replacing them with railing that meets code.
