Trying to paint ductwork. Lowes recommendation was Zinsser Bullys Eye Primer. Painted last night, poor adhesion (scrapes off with fingernail) this morning. Any suggestions on what to use, how to prep, etc?

Most ductwork is galvanized, if this is the case you will need to is clean them well and wipe them down with vinager and rinse (unless of course they have had a chance to weather for a while, but ductwork is inside so...) I would suggest priming them with a galvite primer (oil based)prior to painting. I also have had good luck with latex DTM (Direct To Metal), then no primer is needed, just paint the DTM directly on the ducts. These can be found at Sherwin Williams. Lightly sanding them with a 220 grit sandpaper prior to priming will also help adhesion.

Hope this helps.
