Exclamation New Construction - Water Stained Drywall

Hi All,

I am building a new house, and I'm arguing with my contractor whether the drywall in the house, which has water stains from sitting out in the rain before installation, needs to be sealed with KILZ versus standard primer before paint. He says that if the stains are just water that they will never bleed through the mud, primer, and paint. Any advice from pros would be greatly appreciated. We are texturing today, and painting will start soon.

I have attached a couple of pictures of the stain. It is virtually every piece of drywall in a 5,000+ sq ft house.

Welcome to the forums.

I'm concerned that they got wet in the first place - any softness or weak areas? If not, I think all will be fine but wait for our paint guru, marksr, to comment.

They'll probably be ok but should be inspected closely after the drywall is finished or after the latex primer is applied. If it's not bled thru at that point the odds are it won't be an issue.
