Colors to hide slapbrush texture, and design idea thoughts
My entire house, walls and ceilings are slapbrush textured. I'd really like to redo the living room/kitchen, but I'm trying to find a color that can hid the texture more. Its an open, A-frame room with wood beams I love the idea of adding a beadboard ceiling, like in the picture, but I'm also worried the beadboard and slapbrush textures will clash. There is way too much to replace all the drywall or try to sand it down, so I'm stuck with it until we move somewhere else. I'd love to do a matte light grey/green color, but can't decide if it will highlight the texture or reduce it.

You might try a wide blade paint carbide hook paint scraper to remove the high parts. Used with a light touch it does a pretty good and fast job of knocking off the highs and making it easy to skim coat.
Regarding hiding it...don't know about best color, but a flat sheen tends to hide variations in texture better...at the cost of being harder to clean.
And if you can arrange the lighting in the room so it is diffuse, and hits the walls dead on rather than at a low angle to the wall, that will help too. Light coming from the side tends to highlight texture.

Thanks of the scraper recommendation. No way to change the lighting, as the entire south wall is floor to ceiling windows, and the only other light is a ceiling lamp. Great in the winter though, it' ll be 70 degrees inside and 10 outside with no heat
.
