Wood window trim repair and paint

We are in the process of remodeling our family room.
I decided to paint our wood trim white. Of course, I didn't read up on it before I started and I went right to painting. But I noticed some not so smooth areas and decided to try caulking. Didn't work! So while removing the caulk the wood was scratched, gauged, cut, shaved, you name it!!! Now I am stuck with pealing, uneven mess with wood that is shaving off. What is the best way to repair this????

Welcome to the forums! Not being able to see what you see puts us in another room. Can you post pictures of what you have so we can offer better advice? Thanks. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

Can you back up and send a wider picture so we can better get our bearings? Close ups need some perspective.

Spackle and joint compound can work but there are wood fillers designed for this as well.
