Question Reversable treatment for laminate benchtops?

Can anyone suggest something I can do to a laminate bench top which is reversible to mark an area?

I'd love to be able to allocate a "gluten here only" zone on my bench top to prevent cross contamination of food when guests visit, but I'm concious that if I ever sell the house having a bit of bench a different colour or material from the rest may not be well received.

Can anyone suggest a way to do this semi-permanently? I want to have a permanent solution but without damaging the beautiful white 'wood texture' laminate on my bench top.

Thanks in advance!

Would it be feasible to paint the wall differently next to that area? or maybe use something like a large place mat?

Painter's tape?

I don't think your idea of preventing cross contamination in the same room is feasible, though.
