how can I hide paint lines

I have a wall that has a painted design on it. My room mate does not like the pattern due to it being very busy. Normally I wouldn't have an issue to just paint over it but I see an issue. The pattern has raised lines due to taping the pattern design and multiple layers of paint. What can I do to hide these lines so they won't show through the new paint? Would like to avoid having to sand the wall down, re-texturing and starting over.

The only sure fire way to keep the design from telegraphing thru the new paint is to either sand it off or skim coat over it .... I prefer the latter.

almost forgot welcome to the forums!

You don't have to sand the whole thing, just the edges/transitions. Granted, I can't see it and it's possible the design is complex enough this doesn't help you at all.
