peeling ceiling

Will Problock HS work on my ceiling which is blistering and peeling again. 30 years ago it rained heavily while the roof was off. water came through the ceiling and light fixture. After it dried out it seemed to be intact. Effluressence formed, was scraped, primed and painted. Primed with Bin ,Kilz, latex ceiling paint stays on for a while, then peels again. Thanks for any help. Oh, house built in '59, original ceiling.

Do you think those ceilings are made of calcimine ?

If so, you might enjoy(?) reading this background material:

Cures for Calcimine Ceilings

My Wife nearly went berserk dealing with such a ceiling a few decades back . . . . and we finally solved the problem with a product known a Cal Coater.

It sounds like you have plaster over gypsum lath. Moisture under the paint is one of the main causes of peeling paint but what happened 30 yrs ago shouldn't make it peel now. Is the plaster under the peeled paint chalky/dusty?
