I need to paint a small piece of pressure treated wood, and need to know how to prepare it. One person told me I would need to leave it in the sun for months before applying primer.

Also, what kind of paint would be best. It will be constantly exposed to the weather.

Thank You

Marshall, I think I have just the answer for you. In 1991 I built my daughter a playset out of treated lumber fresh from the lumber yard and as a test I primed half of the 2x2 spindles with an exterior oil primer and half with an exterior latex primer. Topcoat all over was a semi-gloss latex. I had a good many of the 2x2's, both oil and latex primer, left over and have been using them on the ground to keep other things out of the dirt and ten years later other than a little dirty they look like the day I did them. If given a choice I would use oil primer and latex topcoat because the oil has stain killing properties that the latex doesn't...Mike

Thanks Mike. I appreciate your respose. I will try your recommendation. What I'm working on is a top for a bait tank for my fishing boat. Needless to say, I'm not looking for pretty; neat is acceptable.

Thanks Again,
