water stain on ceiling

Quick question- primer for water stain on ceiling, shellac based (BIN) or oil based?
I'll be finish coating with latex ceiling paint.

I would use a oil based stain blocking primer.

Either is fine as long as you have fixed the source of the leak. Personally, I would go oil based.

Generally oil base primer is sufficient. Pigmented shellac does dry faster and is occasionally needed to seal severe water stains.
