Used TSP on walls :(

Hello all, thanks for reading. We just bought our first house and decided to paint some walls. Growing up I remember painting the interior of our house with my parents and we wiped down the walls before painting. I got a bit ambitious (before reading online about its use on oil-based painted walls) and wiped down the walls with a TSP/water mix. I've rinsed the spong several times in fresh water but the walls still feel just a bit slimy from the TSP and when I rub my hands over the wall, it leaves an ever so slight streak of foamy moisture. From the reading I've done, I don't want to leave the TSP on the walls and have my new paint not hold, but I can't figure out if what I'm seeing is an okay amount of residual TSP or if I need to keep wiping. Kicking myself for using, should've just wiped with water in the first place. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

TSP needs to be rinsed well! I mainly just use it on the exterior for that reason. Use a sponge and a bucket of water and rinse it down some more. it's best to not have any TSP residue left on the wall.

Are you saying your walls have oil base paint on them?

Yea, I think the important question is if your wall is painted with oil or water based paint? I'm not sure why you mentioned "oil-based painted walls". Will your finish coat be a water based latex?
