I just purchased a conod. The ceiling has several wood beams. The beams are very rough and are stained in a dark stain, possibly mohogany. The beams were not taped off prior to painting the walls and have paint covered roller marks on them.

I would like to restore the beams. I might be able to match the stain. I need to remove the paint first. Any suggestions?

I'm not 100% sure about this but a product "goof off" might just do the job

Paint on beams

If the beams were stained and then covered with a clear finish and if the paint was a latex, you should be able to scrub off the latex paint even though it has dried. If the paint was an oilbase paint and the beams were not finished with a clear finish, you could try to scrub off some of the paint and then you would have to use a similar color stain, perhaps even a gelled stain because it has more opacity, to touch up the beam.
