Spots during staining

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what these spots are from? I'm assuming it's finger prints, or possibly my sweat, but usually do my final sanding with no gloves on and have never had a problem before. I also probably should have used a wood conditioner before staining—i meant to, just forgot in my rush to start staining and finish the project.

Looks like some type of containment on the wood. You'd probably need to sand it down until it will accept stain. Doubtful wood conditioner would have made any difference.
