Damage to ceiling paint

The paint in our kitchen ceiling seems to be cracking/peeling... I have noticed it over the last couple months. I know there was a significant leak in the upstairs tenants kitchen that was repaired and Iím wondering if this was related. No water came into our suite, I donít notice any bulging or water stains, just the paint cracking and peeling. Ideas please! What could this be? Iíll try to comment a pic but not sure if Iíll be able to.

Welcome to the forums!

Water is one of the main culprits for paint blistering. Interior paint doesn't normally crack and peel. How old is your place? Years ago it was common place for kitchens and baths to be painted with oil base enamel. If the proper primer wasn't used prior to switching to latex paint the latex won't have a great bond with the oil enamel.

pics might help us better understand what you have going on

I had this happen in a bathroom shortly after I moved in and blamed the leak in the bathroom above which occurred just before we moved in. I ended up scraping off the loose paint, smoothing with joint compound and then priming and painting.
