This area is sheetrock covered in glossy latex. I want to cover it with semi-gloss latex. The last painter left brush marks that are clearly noticeable. Looks like what happens when someone brushes on gooey thick paint from the bottom of the can. I think the usual fix is sanding down the wall, but this is a big area and it is a glossy paint that does not sand easily. Also, it it is a knock down texture that I want to keep. I am wondering how to lay down new coats that leave a new smooth semi-gloss surface without those brush marks.

My home is roughly 30 years old and it's always had the same look. Since the hurricanes hit im thinking it's time to do a few upgrades like paint. My delimma is what to do about the baseboards and doors all of which are unpainted wood. All the trim work in the house is stained natural. If I were to paint a room would it look out of place to keep it that way or do I paint it? And if I'm painting should I just do the frame instead? Lots of questions surrounding this. I'm doing some neutral grey colors so the trim would theoretically need to be white to match. I'll follow this scheme for the entire house minus the bathrooms which I'll paint a different color, the washroom and kitchen.
