I need to clean some masonite, vinyl and metal siding prior to painting. Most of this is close to the roof and my roofer said not to use bleach or detergent because it would damage the new composition shingle roof. What can I use that won't damage the new roof but get dirt, grime and mildew off?

Thanks for your help!

Go to your hardware store and ask for TSP cleaner. Get a sturdy scrub brush and that should take care of it. I cleaned fiberglass awnnings that faced north and had twenty years of grime and moss on them. I also had metal siding and scrubbed that clean. They both took a good exterior house paint very well. It has been eight years and they still look great.
