Cubbord paint to soft.

How do you get hard paint like finish on cupboards?

If you ship them out they have a very hard shell on the paint.

I would imagine that this can also be done at home.

It's all in the product you use. Trim enamels, and a different animal is white lacquers. With quality paints you usually get what you pay for.

Oil base and waterborne enamels dry to a fairly hard film. Latex dries to a softer film with the cheaper latex paints generally being softer than the better ones.
