Question

I've got a house built in the '40's that has metal cabinets in the kitchen. Planning to remodel but hate getting rid of them. What can I do to salvage? How do I prep the cabinets for painting? What type of paint is best to use on metal finish?

Thanks!

There are many ways to handle this problem and perhaps you can get some other ideas but this is what I would do. I would take the cabinets off the wall, strip all of the paint off. I would do this because the cabinets have probably been painted a few times with a brush and who knows what and you want to start with a clean smooth surface. Spary the primer before rust starts in on the claen metal. Spray them with a good oil based primer. A kilz is OK. Then spray them with 2 coats of an oil based semigloss or gloss topcoat depending on what look you want.
If you do not have one or are not good with a sprayer, take them to a body shop and let a professinal do it forl you. It will look good.
