Question

I received a bid from a painter and part of the bid includes hot and finish mud. What does this mean?

bfolliott, I suppose the terms could mean different things from place to place but hot mud means the quick setting type made from powder. The finish mud is pre-mixed compound. The hot mud sets, depending on the type, in 20-90 minutes and is used the first coat or two. Finish mud is easier to sand and feather so it is used as the final coat. This method allows deep patching to happen in a day versus several days using only finish mud...Mike
