I have what I believe to be barn board in an old-now winterized porch area that I want to paint a light color. It is dark brown, the texture of which is like tree bark. It is rough, splintery (if thats a word) and perhaps even some sort of a dark pine because I can see the knots. Any suggestions as to how to correctly paint this type of surface?

Kathy101, There is no magic bullet for painting very rough surfaces. Spraying doesn't do it because it tends to buildup on the highest points leaving the lowest with little more than overspray. You will have to do what we do when painting rough block and very rough wood and that is get a 3/4 or 1" roller cover, thin the material slightly and take your time working it into the surface....Mike
