Help, paint chipping off (metal) corners in house.

Our problem is that we have metal corners on the walls in our house and the paint is constantly chipping off whenever they're touched. It looks horrible, leaving the bare metal exposed! We really don't want to repaint the entire house since it is just the corners and the rest looks just fine. Is there anything we can do to prepare the metal corners before repainting them to make the paint "stick" this time? Also, the paint on the corners is much thicker than the rest of the walls. It seems as though the corners, since their tendency to do this, have been painted over numerous times.

Any help appreciated, Thanks
Kev and Karen

its the mud, not the paint that chipped off.

Its not the paint that chipped off. The drywall compound is what chipped off. Apply new joint compound, let dry, and sand smooth. Now prime those spots and paint.

Some corners are more susceptible just because of their location. If the problem is really bad you can protect them with plastic corner guards.
