need a good painting technique

After scraping the wallpaper off the walls in our bedroom, there are a lot of damaged areas that could be very unforgiving. i'm therefore looking for a good painting technique that will somewhat cover up those problem areas on the wall. I'm not a fan of sponging...anyone got any ideas?

put liner paper on the walls before you paper or paint again.

Liner paper is a thick wallpaper made to go on rough surfaces even cinder block
