What paint for shelves so they're not "sticky?"

Hi,

I've recently made a built-in entertainement center and am going to paint it white. My question revolves around what type of paint to use for this so that objects on the shelves won't stick to them after sitting for a while. My concern for this is that our house has wooden shelves in all the closets and we've noticed that boxes or items with rubber feet stick to the paint and sometimes lift pieces of the paint right off if moved. I'm not sure what kind of paint was originally used (the house is 3 years old), but the trim in these closets are turning yellow (Alkyd paint I presume), but the shelves are still white. What type of paint should I use for these new shelves so I don't have this problem?

Thanks.

Painting shelves

Chances are since the paint on the shelves has not turned yellow, it may very well be latex (water base). If I were you I would use an oil based enamel undercoater as a primer over the existing paint, and then top coat with a good quality semi-gloss or satin enamel (with an oil base) and I think that you will have a lot better luck.
