Talking cracked exterior paint

In preparing to paint the exterior of my home. A local paint company gave me some advice. Because of rain and sun damage, and years of not painting(I brought the home like this), the paint on the exposed areas are cracked and brittle. A recommendation of paint remover to be used was given. He also mentioned a product called Peel Stop. Also the exterior siding has a rough finish, so sanding was not recommended, because of blemish to the finish. Any comments on the advice given or other recommendations.

you need to get all of the existing paint off before you repaint. Wether that be by a chemical stripper or sanding it down to bare wood. After all the paint is off. Prime with a slow drying oil based primer, one of the best is A-100 Alkyd by Sherwin Williams and then topcoat with a good quality latex.
