Priming Plater Walls

DOES ANYONE KNOW A GOOD WAY TO PRIMER MY PLASTER WALLS? I HAVE PATCHED THEM AND SANDED THEM AND WANT TO PRIME THEM BUT IT SEEMS THAT I READ SOMEWHERE THAT YOU SHOULD USE CERTAIN TYPES OF PAINT/PRIMER TO KEEP THE PAINT FROM CHIPPING OFF THE PLASTER WALLS. IT SIAD THAT THE ALKOLOID WOULD REACT DIFERENTLY TO CERTAIN TYPES OF PAINT.
DID I IMAGINE THIS OR IS IT TRUE?

HELP-

By any chance did the old paint peel off the plaster due to a water leaking through that plaster. Or other times paint may peel off just because the insulation above it or behind it is wet, and water may not be in supply to create a noticable leak. If water had anything to do with this peeling problem......You may have a job on your hands. Water (or moisture) as it comes through the plaster brings with it a form of alkali, and getting ANY paint or primer to stick to it may be a real problem. It might be a good idea to obtain professional help, and even then get a painter that is old enough to be your grandfather....at least he has been around long enough to see these problems. Good Luck.

NO THERE IS NO WATER. I GUESS THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED HERE BEFORE ME JUST LOVED TO COAT THE WALLS WITH DRIPPY LAYERS OF PAINT. I THOUGHT IF I PRIMED THEM REAL GOOD THE CHIPPING WOULD STOP. I HAVE ALREADY SANDED OFF MOST OF THE OLD PAINT .THANKS!

The best primer for bare plaster is what painters refer to a "mist coat"....
This is just a water thinned emulsion that when applied to the walls is soaked up by the plaster and creates an uncrackable seal.
No special grade primers/specialist paint required....Just watered down emulsion...
