Angry deck paint

A friend said he'd "refinish" our deck for us. He powerwashed it and then proceeded to apply a clear coat of some type of "deck sealant". After seeing the deck when it dried, I was upset because it looks as if the wood is "naked" and has no shiney finish. It is also very rough to the touch. Had I known it would turn out this unattractive and uncomfortable I would have hired someone to do it. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks

Sounds as if he used a water seal, such as Thompsons Water Seal, when this stuff is applyed correctly you can toss a cup of water on the wood and it will bead up as if the water was thrown on the hood of a newly waxed car, fortunately for you it needs to be applied once a season, so it does wear off.

What I would do in this situation is find out exactly what product he used, call, write or email the manufacterer and tell them what you want to do and see what they have to say. I have never tried to cover newly waterproofed decks so I never checked into it.
