paint over old kitchen cabinets
What type of paint should I use to paint over cabinets that was stained and polyurthene originally. I want to paint them white. Please give me your suggestions, i want them to look nice.

mommomraw, I see you were slipping down the board with no reply, sorry I didn't see it sooner. An oil base enamel in a semi-gloss finish would have to be the number one choice for this project. When considering oil paint it does need to be mentioned that it tends to yellow a bit with time. A latex enamel will look almost the same as oil except will show some brush marks. Latex finish is not as tough as oil but will not yellow. If doing this yourself you can get detailed insructions by doing a Search of this site. BobF and others have detailed cabinet painting posts many times.....Mike

My wife and I painted over our kitchen cabinets last year.
They were dark and also evidently had some type of poly protection from the factory-a mid 80's original to the home.
We simply sanded lightly, applied primer and painted two coats of white interior latex from Sears-sanding between coats. They turned out great. No special paint or techniques were used.

I painted over our kitchen cabinets last summer. They had a dark brown stain on them. I sanded them with 150 grit sandpaper, applied Bin primer, and two coats of Benjamin Moore semi-gloss latex. They look great!
