double wide/pre fab home walls

If I take down those strips on my walls what do I fill in the gap with? The walls are vinyl and are textured.

Pre-Finshed Paneling Wall Prep...

kccsl, Welcome to DIY!!! This stuff is easy to deal with and what you want to do will yield what you get when you buy a double wide/pre fab home with finished sheetrock walls (no strips). This is the "all the way right way to do it". Pull the strips, pull all nails or staples, prime area to be smoothed with something like Zinsser 123, KILZ Total One or KILZ II all fine latex based primers. Using drywall compound, tape with fibermesh finishing tape (best) or paper tape (second choice) and fill over tape twice. This may take a pro or a little further guidance here. After filling and sanding with 100 grit drywall sandpaper prime the patched and sanded areas with the primer you chose above and follow this with a coat or two of your topcoat choice and you have a new house....Enjoy....Get back if more questions....Good luck....Mike
