spackle or caulk?

I have always used spackle for nail holes and uneven joints on trim. my hubby says to use caulk (thats what he always uses). who's right? and why?

Spackling and heres why......

bob06385, Nothing wrong with working with caulking for this but caulking does have one bad problem when used for this. It will not sand. Sometimes no matter how you smooth and apply with care some light sanding can be needed and caulking just rolls up. Hint, nail hole can be filled with glazing because its faster but more so because it doesn't shrink. I use glazing because it can be painted over (when inside) without priming the filled nails with oil primer to prevent bleeding through latex paint....Mike
