paint preparation

hi,
I need help!
We have removed some ivy from the side of the house which had attached itself to the rendered walls. It has removed the paint and left fibrous roots stuck to the wall. I am having enormous problems removing it.
Any suggestions?

pedrob, My advice here would depend on what rendered walls are. This is not a term used in my area but did see it described here once but don't remember what it means. If its a concrete type material I use a round wire brush on a side grinder. If wood or something soft scraping is about all you can do. Whatever method is used this stuff is tough and one must be careful not to damage the surface. I can tell you a lot of times this stuff gets painted over when the owner is faced with the labor costs to deal with it. If you do end up leaving a good bit of these root runners do prime them with an exterior oil primer...Mike
