Painting on cement

There seem to be people here from all over, so maybe you can help. My husband and I have an apartment in Yucatan, Mexico, which we need to repaint because the old paint is water-damaged and moldy.

The only construction material used there is cement, and the walls are plain cement under the paint. Has anyone ever painted on cement? Any tips? Also, this is a humid tropical climate and I'm not sure how to make our work hold up longer than the previous paint job did.

there is a masonary primer/sealer/water proof available in paint and hardware stores. it is mostly used on basement cement wall for moisture. you should also use a paint that is recommended for bathrooms due to your mildew. you can also but 'regular' paint but have a mildew retardent added. you buy the retardent separately and have it added prior to shaking or mixing.
good luck
