Unhappy Help! I'm Painting a Metal Roof????

I have three window boxes on the exterior of my home. They each have a metal roof. I would like to paint the roof as the previous owner's paint is flaking pretty bad.

What kind of paint should I choose for metal material that's in the hot Houston sun most of the time? Regular exterior flat latex water based?

Should I apply a primer first? What kind? Brands recommended?

I sure do appreciate any suggestions. DIY is always very helpful!

Have a great weekend!

I would go with either something specifically designed for roofs (mobile home roof coat) or a good enamel like Rustoleum. If the material is galvanized, you will need to use a primer specifically designed for priming galvanized (likely why the other paint is peeling).
