Question Painting/prepping orange peel walls

All of our walls have orange peel texture. I have painted several rooms and it seems that no matter what painting method I use, we always need a second coat to cover thoroughly.

I hoped when I primed the kitchen walls (which I hadn't done in the bedrooms) that I wouldn't have to paint two coats, but I did.

Is there any way to prep the walls or a suggested painting method so that one coat of paint will do it?

Thanks.

could be several reasons why need 2 coats

There could be several reasons why you need two coats.

Many paints, especially cheap ones, do not cover in one coat no matter what it says on the label.

You may have over-brushed and over-rolled.

Cheap tools don't cover as well.

Color ,specifically the amount of tint, also effects coverage. Dark colors, reds, greens, and deeper blues all require at least two coats for good coverage no matter what the brand is.

Thanks, BobF

That helped a little. Thanks.

As for the bedrooms that I've already painted, I didn't buy high quality paint, so that is probably a factor.

In the kitchen that I just painted, I had Sherwin Williams paint, but it was also a darker green.

As for the over rolling...I have a hard time not ending up doing that while trying to get good coverage.

Guess I will take these notes into account and try again with my upcoming projects :-)

Thanks.
