Unhappy Dark Color looks uneven

I am painting my kitchen in a dark cinnamon color. I did all the preparation, i.e. patched, sanded, primed (tinted primer), but the paint is going on very unevenly, i.e. light in some areas, dark in others, I am a novice, so it may be something I am doing, but the primer went on just fine. Is there a trick to dark colors? Help!!!

Many deep, clean colors require multiple, thinly-applied coats, leaving plenty of time between coats. Don't overwork an area or backroll with latex. I'm assuming you've only applied one coat so far. Be patient. What you want to do is to slowly build-up these thin layers of pigment until the depth of color is achieved. It'll work out.
