Stale Smoke Smell -- How to rid???

I purchased a home from a smoker and have been trying to get rid of the stale smoke smell that permeates the house with not much luck.

I ripped out all of the carpets and repainted the walls already, but the smell still remains.

The painter primed the walls and then painted. I thought that would trap the smell underneath, but I don't think it worked.

Any ideas about what I can do to my walls and floors?

All the help and ideas are much appreciated!!

smell permeates everything

That smell is in everything. Did you do the ceilings? Trim work? Doors? Cabinets?

In extreme cases, it may have even penetrated the subfloor.

You could try one of those ionizing air cleaners.

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I painted the ceilings and the doors -- but not the cabinets.

What should I do if it penetrated the subfloor? Will polyurethaing the floors seal in the smell?

An air cleaner was actually my next purchase. Any ideas on a good one?

Yours and anyone else's input is appreciated!

Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone had an answer to my last question. This problem has been bothering me for a while and I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks!

ionizer....

I don't remember the name, but I do remember people telling me that the one that Rush Limbaugh advertised was a good one. It works good on cigar smoke.

I don't know if sealing the subfloor would help.

I'd try an ionizer first.
