Question Painting stripes

I am going to paint different shades of blue stripes 6"-12" wide on a yellow wall. I am planning on using tape to outline the different stripes but in the past I have found that paint tends to bleed under the tape. Is tapeing the best method or is there another way or a certain type of tape I should use?

I think the best srtiping i've seen done was with a leavel and a pencil. You use the pencil because you just take and erase your line when paint is dry or paint over it .That way you don't have the mess with tape or have to worry about it tearing your sheet rock paper.I hope this helps
