3/4" wood corner guard - bowed
#1
I am preparing to install 3/4" pine outside corner guard on plaster wall corners. The 3' lengths are slightly bowed. Is there a way to correct this prior to applying several coats of orange shellac, or must I deal with it upon installation? Also, what is the best way to install such a small peice of bowed molding?

You should be able to take the bow out of your corner pieces when you install them. If they were oak and not pine, they might be a little harder to straighten, but pine isn't as strong so it should go up nicely. I have had success using a good quality double-stick carpet tape (or double-stick foam tape if the wall surface is rough) to install corner mouldings. Stick the tape to the back of the moulding and pull the backing strip off as you press the moulding into place. You don't want it to stick until it is just where you want it or it might not be tight to the wall. This should straighten them, hold them securely and not break the plaster since there is no pounding involved.
