When planning I chose to use 1/4" paneling so I could nail directly to 2x4 studs. I used a sample from a local store to make my selection, which stated it was 1/4". However, after I received it I noted that it was 5.0 mm (13/64"). After looking my paneling selection up on the Georgia Pacific web page it appears that it only comes in 5.0 mm thickness. I am going to try and take it back, but since it was a special order they may not. So, my question is can I nail 5.0 mm paneling directly to 2x4 studs?

I am not sure what your project is, but what ever it is, if you nail any paneling directly
onto the studs, it will be wavey within a year. Paneling needs to have a backing, like OBC board or sheetrock or etc. No, you probably will not be able to take back special order material.
