I purchased 2x4s for a small shed underfloor and some seem heavy and wet. I lay them on a flat surface in the sun. Is there any benefit to waiting a bit or should I just use them. thanks cmae

Do not lay them in the sun. Very good way to get warps, twists and bows. Bad thing to do. You can use them right away. If you use screws to assemble, the wood will dry and make the screws tighter. If you use nails, as the wood dries, you nails will be looser.
