Wood Paneling

Wood Paneling
Hello,
I hope there is someone on this forum that can address my concern. I am about to install 1/4 inch paneling in my workshop. According to the instructions, I should leave a 1/8 inch gap between each sheet to allow for expansion.
Here in South Carolina, it is already warm and the air is a little humid. I would expect that paneling primarily expands during hot and humid weather and shrinks during cold weather. Based on these facts and this time of year, should I leave the recommended space between each sheet or less?
If the paneling has done most of its expansion by now, and I allow the recommended space between sheets, I could end up with a big gap between sheets this winter. Any one have first hand experience concerning this matter?

The expansion will result most from humidity. I would leave the space to avoid buckling in the future. You can caulk the joints for appearance, because the caulk will expand and contract as needed.
Hope this helps.
