Siding and soffits
Need some help from the siding and soffit installation experts out there. Right after the 4th, I'm going to start residing my home. I'm using fiber cement lap siding with 6" exposure. Am also going to install aluminum facias and soffit.
My question has to do with the siding/soffit intersection. Does the siding go on first, with the soffits dieing against the siding or is it the other way around? Or does it matter? It seems like I could get a better looking edge with the F trim nailed against the siding rather than cutting the siding and butting it against the soffits. I just don't want to do it that way and find out that there is a "gotcha"!

Siding & soffits
I am sure there will be someone come along who knows more than I about your situation. My mountain cabin has wood panel siding. It is easy to see that wood panels were installed first and soffit and fascia afterwards. Seems rather basic from a common sense standpoint, just as with interiors. We do the trim last. Again, I have never done exteriors, except I did supervise a couple vinyl siding projects. Siding went up first and the guys did soffit and fascia last. It went the same way on the local Rotary picnic shelter we built in the city park here last month. I was put in charge of that project. The builder erected the shelter, installed the T1-11 gable siding and then completed the soffit and fascia with aluminum. Again, some of our experts will be right behind me and tell you what to do. I have looked at a lot of that fiber cement siding, and I think it looks great. I have not read any negatives about it.

Thanks for the reply!
I have done a lot of looking and have seen it done both ways, but it seems to be done more often with the siding running thru (although the soffit was installed first on this house).
This past weekend, I made the decision to install soffits last, with running the siding past. I went around and sketched every single detail (leave it to an architect to do that ) and I cannot find any "gotcha's". Here's hoping I don't run into any surprises when I get the old siding off.
Looks like I'll have a little more time to think about this. I was intending to get started in about a week when a project at the office went out the door, but the client just made a big change, so I'll be revising drawings for the next couple weeks. Oh well, job security!
