You can use MDF for kitchen cabinets provided all the exposed surfaces are completely sealed and protected from moisture. If a failure in the finish develops, it will absorb moisture and swell like a toad.

I built a set of cabinets from MDF recently. The only good thing that I could find about it was that it was cheap to buy. The next best thing was that once finished I don't have to do it again. All the rest was bad. I am going back to plywood.

Hope this helps.
