Chair Rail With Stairs & Switches

I am intending to put a chair rail in my foyer area. It is an open foyer and the stairs go up, then a sharp 90 degree. How do you install a chair rail in this area - does it just follow the angle of the stairs? What height above the floor should be used?

Since the stair would have a rail, I would stop the chair rail before going up the staircase to avoid overdoing the woodwork.

Chair rail is not an absolute height. Somewhere between 36" and 48" from the floor.

Additional Question

Based upon my chair rail question on the stairs, if the stairs go at a 38 degree angle up to the top and then you have the first landing (before the next flight of stairs), would you put a chair rail at that 38 degree angle till you get to beginning of landing, then based upon the height of the rail, just go horizontal across?
